Born in Kyoto, Japan, living in Saarbruecken, Germany, female piano player and composer Kaori Nomura achieves ever and again in surprising ways to melt extremely different artistic influences and ways of playing into a musical language of her own. Deliberately on her first solo album release “midori“ she turns her attention to forms and structures beyond traditional ways of piano playing. By preparing her instrument and with improvisational boldness she creates unearthly, interwoven soundscapes, taking eccentric walks on the paths of jazz avantgarde and postmodern complex style mixes: as sources she takes elements of modern jazz, European classical music, structures of Japanese folk music and modern improvisation music.

(Ralf Dombrowski, audio 01/2014: 73)
