Discography

KontaSax’s CDs are on the Cologne label JazzHausMusik. The were recorded
in Cologne at the city’s most respected new music and avant-jazz venue, The Loft.
Any record store with a complete jazz section will carry these CDs. They can also
be ordered at directly from JazzHausMusik on-line at www.jazzhausmusik.de.

Each KontraSax CD explores a unique artistic concept. “KontraSax,” (JHM 74),
the duo’s debut recording, was released in 1995. It emphasizes the fundamental
virtue of duo composition and improvisation as it exists in the moment.
“KontraSax Plays Gertrude Stein” (JHM 96) was released in 1998. It marked the
beginning of the duo’s ongoing interest in interactions with literary texts.
On this CD Cologne actress Renate Fuhrmann is a third voice, making the
duo a trio, as she reads from Stein’s works. This recording mixes (sometimes
electronic) text adaptations, instrumental sections, pure vocal sections,
and a collage (“... a rose is still a rose ...”) of all of these elements.
“Zanshin,’ (JHM 130) was released in 2003. It incorporates Eastern
influences and on two tracks features a guest percussionist, on tabla.
