Each KontraSax CD explores a unique artistic concept.
“KontraSax,” (JHM 74),
the duo’s debut recording, was released
in 1995. It emphasizes the fundamental
virtue of duo composition and improvisation as
it exists in the moment.
“KontraSax Plays Gertrude Stein” (JHM
96) was released in 1998. It marked the
beginning of the duo’s ongoing interest
in interactions with literary texts.
On this CD Cologne actress Renate Fuhrmann is
a third voice, making the
duo a trio, as she reads from Stein’s works.
This recording mixes (sometimes
electronic) text adaptations, instrumental sections,
pure vocal sections,
and a collage (“... a rose is still a rose
...”) of all of these elements.
“Zanshin,’ (JHM 130) was released
in 2003. It incorporates Eastern
influences and on two tracks features a guest
percussionist, on tabla.
